Welcome to the Geoastronomy Research Group
About Us
The Geoastronomy project is a transdisciplinary research team focusing on the chemical foundations of rocky exoplanets and the biogeodynamics of such worlds from a non-Solar System-centric perspective.
We are based at three institutes: The Bavarian Geoinstitute (BGI) in Bayreuth, the CNRS in Orleans, and the LMU in Munich.
ERC support
Our ERC funded Synergy project began in June 2025 and brings together more than 40 researchers with the core institutions and beyond. Our co-aligned network of research collaborators investigates exoplanetary systems in new ways by combining (i) nuclear astrophysics and galactic chemical evolution, with (ii) experimental petrology under extreme/exotic conditions that together provide fundamental input to (iii) atmospheric chemical physics models that inform observations of the atmospheres and other properties of worlds in orbit around other stars.
